Popularity of male jewellery continues to surge

Despite demand for men’s jewellery fluctuating throughout the history of the fashion industry, its popularity in recent years has risen comprehensively as rings, necklaces, and earrings have become fashion must-haves among the male market

Popularity of male jewellery continues to surge
A major contributing factor to the resurgence in demand for men’s jewellery has been the willingness of prominent male celebrities to wear pieces of jewellery in front of the world media. Superstars, like Will Smith, Lewis Hamilton, and Alexander Skarsgard, are regularly snapped by paparazzi while proudly sporting items of jewellery.

Such celebrity fashion habits quickly become worldwide fashion trends, which increase the demand for similar jewellery pieces among men, thus increasing the presence of male jewellery on international catwalks and in major stores around the globe.

Market researchers, Mintel, have collected data over the past five years, which shows that 48% of men buy rings, 47% purchase necklaces, and 32% buy bracelets and bangles for themselves. Chana Baram, a retail analyst with Mintel, points to the vital role of online marketing aimed at men, with data showing that 40% of men are likely to utilise social media to get jewellery shopping ideas, compared to 31% of women.

While the male jewellery market is not expected to overtake the female sector, there are still signs of considerable potential growth in the market with demand continuing to increase. Industry experts are predicting the emergence of luxury jewellery as a leading male trend going forward, a topic bound to be discussed extensively by exhibitors and visitors at this year’s VOD Dubai International Jewellery Show.
